Alpinia Archive
Alpinia is an homage to our home. The Slovenian cultural heritage and its deep connection to nature. Set against an idyllic Alpine landscape, the collection reflects a return to familiar origins – childhood memories, traditional crafts, and the beauty of the natural world.
Rooted in local awareness, Alpinia draws from folkloric motifs and regional craftsmanship, reinterpreting them through contemporary techniques. Hand embroidery, cross-stitch, and needlepoint are translated into prints and technical fabrics, merging heritage with modern construction.
Accompanied by a short film shot in the Slovenian mountains and set to original Oberkrainer music, the collection captures a sense of place where tradition, landscape, and craft come together. Alpinia reflects JAC’s ongoing pursuit: to transform cultural memory into contemporary form through human creativity.
Alpine Heritage
Rooted in Carniolan folkloric textile design from the Alpine region of Slovenia, traditional motifs are brought into a contemporary context. Authentic cross-stitch patterns of ALPINIA are hand embroidered using traditional techniques on a typical needlepoint canvas, then translated into prints, preserving the structure and rhythm of the original stitch. JAC’s signature BINDLE carries the same cross-stitch motif into an everyday object, extending this visual language beyond garments.
HEIDI’S reinterprets the traditional dirndl bodice from the Alps as a contemporary styling piece, preserving its structured character while adapting it to modern use. Together, these elements reflect a dialogue between heritage and design, where familiar forms are reshaped through a new lens.
From Hand to Print
EDELWEISS and DEER GOBENIN originate from traditional handcraft processes, where embroidery and needlework define the initial form. Each motif is first developed through manual techniques, allowing the structure of the stitch and the texture of the surface to shape the image itself.
These hand-executed works are then translated into prints, carrying over the depth, irregularity, and detail of the original textile. Through this shift from hand to technical fabric, the designs retain the presence of their making while entering a contemporary context.
Nature of the Alps
The nature of the Alps becomes a source of imagery, where animals, plants, and textures are observed, collected, and translated into design.
ALPINE FAUNA draws from vintage-style engravings of Alpine wildlife, bringing familiar mountain creatures into a composed visual narrative across the body. ALPINE FLORA reflects the richness of Alpine vegetation, where botanical motifs are layered and reinterpreted through contemporary textiles. Together, they carry our love for nature and childhood memories from the Slovenian Alps.
Reimagined Traditions
Traditional garments and decorative elements are reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. Familiar motifs such as gingham checks, historical undergarments, and smocking techniques are adapted into modern silhouettes, where construction becomes both functional and expressive.
Through this approach, everyday clothing and heritage details are transformed into versatile pieces, moving between dance, leisure, and daily wear while retaining their original character.
Every garments proudly created by the JAC team.
